Capabilites and strengths

I’ve been writing, editing and overseeing professional corporate and marketing communications for more than 25 years.

Before going freelance, I worked for several years first as an Associative Creative Director and Copywriter for an advertising agency, then served as Corporate and Marketing Communications Officer/Assistant Vice President for a national corporation on the NASDAQ exchange.

Working both sides of the communication fence—both client and agency---has given me a balanced perspective about the real-life process of launching communications efforts. While every writer worth their salt strives for sparkling, award-winning copy, I never forget that my main goal is to help my clients accomplish their business objectives. And though I work hard to learn about each client’s industry and market position, I have a healthy respect for the fact that they know more about their business than I do.

Having in-house experience with an advertising agency taught me how to work well with designers, art directors, and creative directors, and understand the possibilities and restrictions of production. Having learned the joys of shepherding countless projects through several levels of approvals and revisions in the corporate environment showed me, among other things, the intricacies of maintaining the core message while satisfying multiple requirements (budgetary, legal, operational, cultural, political, and whatever else crops up).

I am experienced in both consumer-driven and business-to-business writing and have done extensive work for clients in the healthcare industry. There isn’t much in the way of the written commercial word that I haven’t worked on, but here’s the official list.
